DVD Review and Giveaway: Tron Legacy

It's movie review time!

So you probably already know I'm a movie lover. I'll watch pretty much anything - comedy, rom com, action, sci fi, kids movies (lucky I now have a toddler to use as an excuse!), drama, etc.

So when I was sent a review copy of Tron Legacy I was very happy!

I hadn't seen the original movie TRON but I knew this was a sequel, so I was curious to know whether I would get lost in the storyline..

Here is my description of the storyline:

Sam Flynn, son of missing Kevin Flynn (from the original movie), basically gets pulled into the digital world his dad created, finds his father and realises his dad has been trapped in this world for the last 20 years thanks to.. well, I better not give that part away! Together with their warrior friend Quorra they try to escape, dodging bad guys and very advanced vehicles and weapons while heading for their destination.

I liked it, great special effects, the story is pretty interesting and it moved at a fast pace and kept me interested :)

After the end though, I couldn't stop thinking about the original TRON and wondering if there were things I didn't get about TRON Legacy that I would understand better if I saw the first movie.

So I watched TRON too. It cleared up a few things for me, gave me a bit more background and made me laugh a bit at the special effects used back then. Bit too much tech talk for me in the original though - I think TRON Legacy focuses much better on the characters and storyline!

If you would like to see TRON Legacy you can find it at most good DVD shops for RRP $39.95 (DVD), $49.95 (Blu-ray value pack), or $54.95 (3D Blu-ray pack).

I also have a copy to give away! To enter, just leave a comment below and tell me if you have ever watched a sequel before the original movie :)

  1. I too have never seen the original but loved this version of tron - much more than I thought!
As you know, Nath's a bit of a nerd and was chomping at the bit to watch this one. I thought "oh no, I'm going to have to suffer through another boring boy flick" but I was the one telling him to stop ruffling the chip packet!
This is the first sequel I've seen before the original - and Star Wars doesnt count coz the prequel's didnt exist at the time!
I'm impressed and won't judge movie by it's seemingly lame cover in the future.
Oh, and you can just fb me :)

  2. I saw Aliens before I saw Alien, but only because I hadn't heard of Alien prior to that.
As a rule though, I generally like to watch the previous movie(s) before I go and see a sequel.

Oh and I'm not sure if it counts, but I've seen Rocky 3 (only because I went to the movies with friends and that was what they wanted to see) but have never watched another Rocky movie before or after.

  3. The original movie had a ray gun in a laboratory that brought Kevin into the virtual reality world which reminded me of the part of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” when the boy was shrunk. I was really impressed with the graphics for the Legacy version which were groundbreaking again. I suppose that is how this movie should honor the old but they should have had more advertising that talked about that aspect.
I watched it in HD 1080p, the same as Blu-ray with my DISH Network HD receiver on VOD. I love how the picture looks on my 82” TV because anything less than HD is not worth it; plus I get my HD free for life as a qualifying customer with a top package. Sweet!
